At St Jerome’s Primary School, our educators are passionate about ensuring that all students learn and thrive in a holistic way.
We believe that learning is natural, and can happen anywhere and at any time. Authentic learning should involve the development of knowledge and understandings, as well as values, competencies and skills necessary for the students to flourish in the 21st century. We believe that students should have the opportunity to represent their understandings in a variety of ways.
Children become competent and confident learners as they actively construct their own understanding, and contribute to each other’s learning. Deep learning occurs when children are engaged, challenged and given opportunities to problem solve. Learning opportunities are enhanced through the creative arts, the use of digital technology and through participation in creative play.
At St Jerome’s Primary School, relationships and respect for children is at the heart of what we do. Parents are the first educators and teachers work in partnership with parents to help their child reach their full potential. We believe that teaching is intentional and creative. It involves using evidence-based practice and a comprehensive knowledge of the curriculum to personalise learning experiences that cater for the needs of all students.
We believe that students should have the opportunity to apply their knowledge, understandings and skills in authentic, real world situations. Our teachers provide ongoing feedback to students to support them in their development. We are committed to the importance of developing contemporary and flexible learning environments, and recognise that the natural environment enriches the learning experience for all students.
